Welp, the odds are awful this week.

The oddsmakers seem to think there’s only two matches up in the air, and even those are only a few feet off the ground.

So here’s a strategy I recommend for Hell In A Cell: bet one jellybean on every underdog and hope you come out with more jellybeans. It might work and it’d save you a lot of stress. If that doesn’t appeal to you, read on.

You know the drill: I am betting imaginary jellybeans for each match (based on Paddy Power’s odds) and keeping track of my “winnings.” I’m dividing my picks into three categories: 🔒 Locks™, Solid Picks and Stay Aways. I will bet 10 jellybeans on the 🔒 Locks™, five on the Solid Picks, and none on the Stay Aways.

Here are my Hell In A Cell picks. Remember that I’m not necessarily picking the winner, but the one that I feel is the best bet.

🔒 Locks™

None

Sorry.

Solid Picks

Tag-Team Match For The WWE Tag Team Championship

The Dudley Boyz: 2/5 (-250)

The New Day (c): 7/4 (+175)

Pick: The New Day

This is one of the matches that doesn’t seem like a gimme. The Dudley Boyz have challenged for the tag titles twice already and lost both times due to disqualification, but those matches were before New Day showed their dangerous side, attacking Dolph Ziggler backstage. Frankly, the Dudleys don’t need to win to be over, and New Day has the makings of a long-lasting dominant stable. I think they get a mildly surprising win here.

Singles Match For The WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Seth Rollins (c): 1/5 (-500)

Kane: 3/1 (+300)

Pick: Seth Rollins

It’s been well-known for years that Kane doesn’t like to be the top guy. Despite being a prominent member of the roster for 18 years straight, he’s had two world title runs and one lasted a day. He’s almost always rejected opportunities to move up the card, as he’d rather put over younger talent. Rollins is exactly the kind of guy Kane likes to put over. Kane was the one who helped Rollins get the title shot in the first place, and it would make perfect narrative sense for Kane to take the title from Rollins, but Corporate Kane has been around so long that he once feuded with CM Punk. It’s time to retire the Director of Operations character.

Hell In A Cell Match

Brock Lesnar: 1/5 (-500)

The Undertaker: 3/1 (+300)

Pick: Brock Lesnar

This is the final match of the feud, and Lesnar doesn’t tend to lose those matches. Any notion of Taker beating Lesnar clean left when he hit Lesnar in the gentlemen vegetables at SummerSlam. There’s no way Lesnar loses clean to someone who wrestles fewer matches a year than Rosa Mendes. Here’s hoping this match doesn’t end in another schmozz.

Bonus Bet: Will Sheamus Cash In The MITB Contract?

Yes: 11/8 (+138)

No: 8/15 (-188)

Pick: No

I don’t think Sheamus will cash in on Seth Rollins, at least not unless Rollins turns face while holding the belt. It’s something to be aware of, since Sheamus will be in the first match of the night, but it’s extremely unlikely.

Stay Aways

Six-Man Tag-Team Match

Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro and Neville: 4/9 (-225)

Rusev, Sheamus and King Barrett: 13/8 (+163)

Pick: Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro and Neville

I almost always pick the babyfaces in the preshow, since the whole point is to get the crowd excited, but, for a meaningless match, these odds aren’t worth betting on.

FOOTNOTE
These odds are from SkyBet, since Paddy Power has not posted odds for this match.

Singles Match For The WWE Intercontinental Championship

Kevin Owens (c): 1/10 (-1000)

Ryback: 9/2 (+450)

Pick: Kevin Owens

This match is only happening to fill a spot, which is sad. I like both these wrestlers, but the feud doesn’t mean anything and I have a hard time caring about it.

Singles Match For The WWE Divas Championship

Charlotte (c): 1/7 (-700)

Nikki Bella: 4/1 (+400)

Pick: Charlotte

Much like the IC match, this is only happening to fill a spot and give Bella her rematch, which is so disappointing given the potential the Diva’s Revolution had. At least there are multiple storylines in the division, but Paige’s character no longer makes any sense. Then again, most characters regardless of gender make no sense.

Hell In A Cell Match

Roman Reigns: 1/4 (-400)

Bray Wyatt: 5/2 (+250)

Pick: Roman Reigns

I actually think Wyatt has a solid shot here thanks to Braun Strowman, who has been booked like an 80s heel and is basically unstoppable. Strowman will probably find his way in the cage somehow. That being said, it’s Roman Reigns, and he’ll likely win. Credit where it’s due, though: this is one of the only intriguing matches on the card, and it’s because of the Reigns promo this week on RAW. He’s markedly improved lately.

Open Challenge For The WWE United States Championship

John Cena (c): N/A

TBD: N/A

Pick: TBD

Obviously, there aren’t odds on this since we don’t know the challenger. But whoever it is, I think he’ll win. Cena is reportedly taking a two-month sabbatical after Hell In A Cell and certainly won’t have the belt while he’s gone. I’d guess his challenger will be Daniel Bryan, but I don’t want to get my hopes up. More likely, it’ll be Dean Ambrose, who is left with nothing to do after his preshow match was canceled, or Kofi Kingston, the only member of The New Day that hasn’t answered the challenge recently. Either would be a good champion, which means the opponent will probably be Mark Henry or something lame like that.

Overall record to date: 34-28-4

Jellybeans won to date: 27.97 on a 23-19-4 record

Biggest win: 45 jellybeans (Ryback def. Sheamus, Mark Henry, King Barrett, Dolph Ziggler & R-Truth at Elimination Chamber 2015)
