This is one of the most interesting PPVs to bet on in a while. The last few events have been rather predictable and were not ideal to bet on. This one has a few matches that could go either way.
Of course, the most intriguing WWE show in the past few months is also going up against the most intriguing basketball game of the year and the most intriguing Game of Thrones episode of the season. Such is life.
You know the drill: I am betting imaginary jellybeans for each match (based on Paddy Power’s odds) and keeping track of my “winnings.” I’m dividing my picks into three categories: 🔒Locks™, Solid Picks and Stay Aways. I will bet 10 jellybeans on the 🔒Locks™, five on the Solid Picks, and none on the Stay Aways.
Here are my WWE Money in the Bank picks. Remember that I’m not necessarily picking the winner, but the one that I feel is the best bet.
🔒Locks™
None.
Solid Picks
Singles match for the WWE United States Championship
Rusev (c): 1/7 (-700)
Titus O’Neil: 10/3 (+333)
Pick: Titus O’Neil
Three hundred sixty-four days of the year, plus Leap Day, I would pick Rusev to win this match. But this match is taking place on Father’s Day, and O’Neil is, by one measure, Father of the Year. Rusev will get the belt back fairly quickly, but O’Neil will get to celebrate his first WWE singles title with his kids.
Money in the Bank ladder match
Dean Ambrose: 1/3 (-300)
Kevin Owens: 9/4 (+225)
Chris Jericho: 10/1 (+1000)
Cesaro: 12/1 (+1200)
Sami Zayn: 20/1 (+2000)
Alberto Del Rio: 25/1 (+2500)
Pick: Chris Jericho
Cesaro should win, but Jericho will win. He’s been extremely entertaining since turning heel and has never won the match he helped invent. Plus Fozzy has no tour dates scheduled.
Ambrose will lose as a swerve. Owens and Zayn will take each other out. Del Rio is too boring. Cesaro won’t win because he is the best choice, and WWE often doesn’t make the best choice.
Singles match
AJ Styles: 1/8 (-800)
John Cena: 7/2 (+350)
Pick: John Cena
I would love nothing more than for Styles to get the win here. But Rule No. 1 about betting on wrestling: never bet against John Cena.
Stay Aways
Singles match
Apollo Crews: 10/21 (-210)
Sheamus: 8/5 (+160)
Odds from 5Dimes
Pick: Sheamus
This match has very little stakes, but my best guess is that Sheamus will pick up the win and Crews will go over in the rematch.
Tag-team match
Charlotte & Dana Brooke: 10/19 (-190)
Natalya & Becky Lynch: 3/2 (+150)
Odds from 5Dimes
Pick: Natalya & Becky Lynch
Charlotte and Brooke will get distracted by something and Lynch will get the win for her team so she stays strong for a title shot down the line.
Fatal-Four Way match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
The New Day (c): 1/6 (-600)
The Club: 7/2 (+350)
Enzo & Cass: 8/1 (+800)
The Vaudevillains: 22/1 (+2200)
Pick: The New Day
It wouldn’t be crazy to see Gallows and Anderson win this one, but New Day will likely hold the belts until they break Paul London and Brian Kendrick’s record. Enzo & Cass will win the belts in a two-on-two match. The Vaudevillains had their shot.
Singles match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Roman Reigns (c): 1/8 (-800)
Seth Rollins: 7/2 (+350)
Pick: Roman Reigns
Something screwy could (and should) happen in this match. Triple H or Dean Ambrose could get involved. But there’s always a good chance Reigns will just win clean, so this is not worth betting on.
Quick Hits
Neither PaddyPower nor 5Dimes had odds for these matches. And none of them have any stakes anyway.
Baron Corbin def. Dolph Ziggler
The Lucha Dragons def. The Dudley Boyz
Golden Truth def. Breezango
Overall record to date: 75-49-6
Jellybeans won to date: 30.66 on a 37-32-6 record
Biggest win: 45 jellybeans (Ryback def. Sheamus, Mark Henry, King Barrett, Dolph Ziggler & R-Truth at Elimination Chamber 2015)
