In a week full of shocking returns, one was ignored because it happened in TNA. In Wrestledelphia’s ongoing effort to bring attention back to the IMPACT Zone, this week’s #WomanCrushWednesday is Gail Kim.
Born north of the border, the Asian sensation brought an exotic look and innovative moveset to mainstream women’s wrestling. Mixing aerial attacks with MMA-based submission holds, Kim dazzled crowds and opponents alike during the early 2000s golden age. After all, she’s the only WWE Diva to win the Women’s Championship in her first match.
Jumping back and forth between WWE and TNA over the past decade, Kim has battled just about every woman to lace up a pair of boots. Her rivalry with Awesome Kong laid the foundation for the TNA Knockouts division, which she remains a central figure of. And, as is usually the case with pioneers, Kim is a fearless, independent warrior—sick of WWE wasting her talent, she eliminated herself in a battle royal on RAW, undetected from everyone, and gave her notice.
She’s married to celebrity chef (and lucky man) Robert Irvine, and hopefully, becomes the first woman inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame.
