As we celebrate the birth of the United States this week, it’s only fitting that our #WomenCrushWednesday is pro wrestling’s all-American beauty: Torrie Wilson.
You probably can’t remember any of her matches that didn’t involve lingerie or gravy pools, but the blonde bombshell certainly earned her keep in WWE. She was the cover girl, the starlet of suplexes. Her breath-taking beauty and angelic personality made her every boy’s school girl crush, and every girl’s dream BFF.
Usually reduced to cheering her man at ringside, whether that be Tajiri or Carlito or “Mr. Ass,” Wilson also partook in some of the most absurd storylines in the history of not just wrasslin’, but television. She was the catalyst for the first and hopefully only Viagra-on-a-Pole match. She acted on multiple lesbian tendencies with Sable, Nidia, and just about any other Diva on the roster. And of course, there was her father, Al Wilson, who married Torrie’s archrival Dawn Marie, then died of a heart attack during the honeymoon.
Ah, Wrestlecrap at its purest.
Wilson went on to pursue other interests, including Alex Rodriguez who she dated for half of the 2010s. It might seem weird to non-fans that a former women’s wrestler would hook up with a mainstream sports giant, but to those of us who grew up with Torrie, it only seems right.
But just remember A-Rod: she was ours before she was yours.
