June has always been a heavy month for pro wrestling deaths and this year may be the worst.
Tommy Rogers, 54, one-half of The Fantastics with Bobby Fulton, was found dead in his home on June 1. Cora Combs, a women’s pioneer who also performed as Lady Satan, passed away on June 20 at age 92. And of course, Dusty Rhodes died on June 11 at age 69.
Well, yesterday, one more ring veteran joined the list, breaking the myth that death comes in threes. After all, Buddy Landel was always a rule breaker.
A third-generation Nature Boy, Landel was found dead by his wife in their home one day after he was involved in a car crash. Landel’s legacy will be one of untapped potential, a career with so much promise that his comparison to Ric Flair was not unfounded.
Rather than me educate you on Landel, here’s the man himself, a perennial wizard on the mic, telling you everything you need to know about the late, great Buddy Landel.
