For all those upset about John Cena’s win at Money in the Bank last night, he did lose the coveted WWE Championship belt during the same pay-per-view three years ago.

CM Punk promised the WWE Universe and Vince McMahon that he would walk out of Chicago with the WWE Championship, as well as promising to leave the WWE with it.

Just hours before his contract with the company expired, Punk defeated Cena to win the belt and left through the crowd. Though he didn’t take the championship to Ring Of Honor (ROH) or New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) like he promised, it was a Money in the Bank highlight that we won’t soon forget. At any rate, it should help you get over the sting of Cena winning last night.
