Survivor Series 2014 will forever be remembered as the night how, “The Franchise” himself, Sting, made probably the most influential debut in WWE history.
Sting—known for his time in WCW and TNA—certainly made his rumored appearance at this year’s installment of the company’s second-longest running pay-per-view well known, coming out as the lights blackened to the sound of crows, just as crooked referee Scott Armstrong was about to make the three count on a down-and-out Dolph Ziggler.
But let’s rewind a bit shall we? After The Big Show betrayed Team Cena, knocking out the leader of Cenation himself, it was up to Ziggler to face the odds, and that he did.
With resilience and heart, The Showoff was able to eliminate Kane and Luke Harper, only after taking a severe beating, leaving the match down to Ziggler and Seth Rollins with the future of the WWE at stake.
After a great back and forth between the two, Triple H had to interfere every chance he got just to save himself and his “team.” After The Game knocked out two referees and a flattened Ziggler with a Pedigree, 30 years of waiting was about to come to an end.
As Sting slowly made his way to the ring, I had chills running down my spine, as any WWE fan who had been dreaming of this day. After a knocking out Armstrong, the crowd went nuts as Sting entered the ring.
The epic stare down that wrestling fans have not seen since the days of Terra Ryzing was happening live in St Louis. Chants of “Holy Shit” and “This is Awesome” ran all over the arena, and why the hell wouldn’t they?
We’ve only waited 30 years.
After a few minutes of both men locking eyes, Triple H tried to attack, but missed. Sting was able to level The Cerebral Assassin with the Scorpion Death Drop. In a motion of showing where his allegiance is, Sting helped Ziggler cover a motionless Rollins, and we got the win we’ve all been waiting for, signaling a good riddance to The Authority.
With the fall of The Authority, what’s next for Sting? Will we see a match between him and The Game? Or will we see the hyped Undertaker bout?
Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain at the end of the night. Sting has finally arrived and he doesn’t need words to make an impact.
