In honor of the Beast Incarnate’s return, this week’s #WomenCrushWednesday is his wife: Sable.
The premiere diva of the Attitude Era, Sable skyrocketed into mainstream celebrity as the glamorous, seductive, blonde bombshell of the wrestling world. Launching a trend of WWE Divas to grace the cover of Playboy, Sable’s edition became one of the highest-selling issues in the history of the magazine. She made TV cameos and late-night talk show appearances; unheard of for women wrestlers at the time.
And yes, her in-ring skills paled in comparison to Trish Stratus and Lita, but she still won the Women’s Championship. Pretty good for someone hired as a valet to her-then husband, Marc Mero.
Unfortunately, she quit the company at her peak. But fortunately for her, it was based on allegations of sexual harassment which led her to suing WWE and settling out of court. And THEN she returned three years later!
She broke more ground than Medusa, and deserves an induction into the Hall of Fame, if only to satisfy the “women who want to be her, and the men who came to see her.”
